Door Stops

Share |

Are you tired of the door slamming into a wall when you open it too hard? If so, then you need door stops my friend!

Karcher door stop

Now, there are various decorative door stops out in the market right now that you can choose from and most of them can be customized to your liking but first you need to know which kind of door stop is right for you. There are magnetic, rigid, sprung, and free standing door stops. Aside from protecting your wall from potential damages caused by the door, some of these door stops will also help you in keeping the door open for as long as you like.

First up, let’s talk about the magnetic door stop.

The magnetic door stop uses magnetism to hold your door in place or catch it if it’s one of those doors that swing unexpectedly or if it’s incorrectly hung. As an added convenience, the magnet stop can be floor or wall mounted depending on how the door is placed in your home. This is one of the simplest solutions if you’re looking for a door stop and this works wonders on the usual doors; however you might want to check with your contractor if you’re using heavier doors.

Next we have the rigid door stop.

The rigid stop is one of the most common styles of door stops out there. It’s basically another knob that is screwed into a wall to stop a door from slamming into it thus preventing any damages to the wall or the door. The only downside of this common and most used doorstop is its inability to hold the door in place should you need to keep the door open for some reason.

Third we have the spring doorstop.

This particular door stop is pretty much a rigid doorstop but instead, uses a spring rather than a full solid body. Although this style costs lesser compared to the other styles in the market, there are numerous problems you might encounter if you are looking into using this style. One of the disadvantages is the way it is constructed. It is rather fragile and you might find yourself replacing it more often than usual because the spring loses its shape over time and may become bent.

Last, but definitely not the least, is the free standing door stop.

Probably one of the, if not, only kind of door stop that doesn’t require a floorboard or base upon installation. As its name suggests, this is a simple door stop which is placed on the floor behind the door. Normally manufactured from a material such as stainless steel these door stops are ideal for bathroom situations where you may have tricky tiled floors or under floor heating and the need to protect glass shower screens behind the door.
